Terms of Use

Last updated: 2026-05-11

These Terms of Use (“Terms”) govern your access to and use of the Law Firm Brief website (lawfirmbrief.com) and the Law Firm Brief newsletter (the “Service”). The Service is operated by Don Svederus, an individual based in Conroe, Texas, USA (“we,” “us,” or “our”). By accessing or using the Service, you agree to be bound by these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.

The Service

Law Firm Brief is a publication covering AI tools, prompts, and workflows for solo and small-firm lawyers. We publish articles on the website and a twice-weekly email newsletter. Some content is editorial; some content is sponsored or contains affiliate links, which are always clearly disclosed.

Not legal advice

Nothing on Law Firm Brief constitutes legal advice. We cover software and AI tools used in legal practice. We do not advise on legal strategy, case handling, professional responsibility, ethics, or any matter requiring the judgment of a licensed attorney. Reading Law Firm Brief does not create an attorney-client relationship between you and any author or contributor.

You are solely responsible for the decisions you make regarding software, workflows, and AI tools in your law practice. Test before adopting. Verify compliance with applicable bar rules and your client obligations.

Eligibility

The Service is intended for legal professionals 18 years of age or older. By using the Service, you represent that you meet this requirement.

Acceptable use

When using the Service, you agree not to:

  • Violate any applicable law, regulation, or third-party right.
  • Scrape, copy, redistribute, or republish substantial portions of our content without express written permission.
  • Use automated means to access the Service in a way that interferes with normal operation (excessive crawling, denial-of-service attempts).
  • Attempt to gain unauthorized access to any portion of the Service or its underlying systems.
  • Use the Service to send spam or harmful content.
  • Misrepresent your identity or affiliation in correspondence with us.

Intellectual property

All content on the Service — articles, images, design, logo, and newsletter issues — is owned by Don Svederus / Law Firm Brief or used with permission, and protected by copyright and other intellectual property laws.

What you may do without asking: read, share excerpts on social media with attribution, link to articles, and forward newsletter issues to colleagues.

What requires written permission: republishing full articles, using content in a competing publication, training AI models on our content, and any commercial use beyond the foregoing.

Trademarks, product names, and company names mentioned in our coverage belong to their respective owners. We use them under nominative fair use to describe and review the software and services they refer to.

Third-party links and affiliate disclosure

Articles and newsletter issues link to third-party websites, products, and services. Some of these links are affiliate links, meaning we may earn a commission if you sign up or purchase through them, at no additional cost to you. See our Affiliate Disclosure for the full details. We do not control third-party sites and are not responsible for their content, terms, or practices.

Newsletter subscriptions

The newsletter is free. You can subscribe at any time and unsubscribe through any link in the footer of any issue we send you. Unsubscribing removes you from active sending; see our Privacy Policy for retention details.

We may suspend or terminate access to the Service for any user who violates these Terms or whose continued access creates a security or legal risk.

Disclaimers

The Service is provided “as is” without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including but not limited to merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement. We do not warrant that the Service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or free of malicious code. We do not warrant the accuracy, completeness, or timeliness of any content, including software reviews and tool recommendations.

Software products and AI tools change frequently. A review or recommendation reflects the state of the product at the time of writing and may become outdated. Always verify pricing, features, and compliance with current vendor documentation before adopting any tool in your practice.

Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, in no event will Don Svederus, Law Firm Brief, or any contributor be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or any loss of profits or revenues, arising from your use of or inability to use the Service, your reliance on any content, or any third-party software or service referenced on the Service. Our aggregate liability for any claim arising out of or relating to these Terms or the Service will not exceed one hundred US dollars ($100) or the amount you paid us in the twelve months preceding the claim, whichever is greater.

Indemnification

You agree to indemnify, defend, and hold harmless Don Svederus and Law Firm Brief from any claim, liability, loss, or expense (including reasonable attorneys’ fees) arising out of your violation of these Terms, your misuse of the Service, or your violation of any law or third-party right.

These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of Texas, without regard to its conflict of law principles. Any dispute arising out of or relating to these Terms or the Service that is not resolved informally will be litigated exclusively in the state or federal courts located in Montgomery County, Texas, and you consent to personal jurisdiction in those courts.

Changes to these Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. Material changes will be announced at the top of this page with the new “Last updated” date. Continued use of the Service after changes take effect constitutes your acceptance of the updated Terms.

Severability

If any provision of these Terms is held to be invalid or unenforceable, the remaining provisions will continue in full force and effect.
